5 Stylish ways to wear a scarf

I’m crazy about scarves.  They are fun to wear, keep the winter chill at bay AND can add style to your wardrobe without breaking the bank.

Here are various ways to wear scarves with some tips to match:

Which scarf to wear with what?  As a guideline, if you are wearing a plain colour, add a colourful or printed scarf to add interest.  If you are wearing print, choose something low key or neutral.  Faux fur is very hot this season and if chosen well will go with almost anything.

There are not absolute rules when it comes to scarves.  Consider your outfit and personal style to help you decide which will work best for you.

1.    The loop:  Double your scarf, pull the ends through the loop and tighten.

This is a great way to keep your neck warm and add a pop of colour or interest to your look.  If you wear a small scarf, you can tuck the ends into your blouse or jacket for a tailored, chic look.

2.    Round and back:  Wrap your scarf around the front of your neck, wrap around the back and bring back to the front.

Wear this scarf style if you don’t want your neckline covered up or you want to give some extra volume to your bust.  Ooohhh la la!

3.    Over the shoulder:  Wrap the scarf around the back of your neck and bring to the front with one side longer than the other.

Place the longer side over the opposite shoulder.  Secure with a broach if you are unlikely to take it off during the day.
If you don’t like a scarf too close to your neck or want to create a ‘draped neckline’ look, this style is ideal.

4.    Down the body:  Wrap the scarf around the back of your neck and bring down in the front.

This style offers you less neck warmth, but is a great way to create a slimmer silhouette.  The scarf draws the eye down the body making you look taller and slimmer.

5.    The shawl:  If your scarf is wide enough, you can wear it as a pashmina.

Using the full width, wrap the scarf around the back of your shoulders and bring to the front, keeping one side longer than the other.  Place the longer side over the opposite shoulder.  Secure with a broach if you want it to stay.

This is a chic way of adding extra warmth to your look.  It usually works best in a lightweight fabric to avoid adding extra bulk.
