5 ways to moisturise your hair naturally

Many things can dry out your hair. Chlorine from the swimming pool in summer days, harsh weather in the winter, and, not to mention, constant styling or washing it too often.

This, and many other things, can leave your locks looking less than luscious and you feeling self concious about your mop.

Not all of us can afford all those expensive treatments, so, why not look for a cheap, natural alternative?

Here are 5 ways to get you started.

1.  Olive oil

This may sound a bit weird, but olive oil is a great conditoner. It might be a bit messy, but the end result is well worth the effort.

How?
Apply directly to your hair and massage into your scalp. Then, put a shower cap over your hair and leave over night. Wanna speed up the process? Place a warm towel or hot wet towel around your head and use a hair dryer to keep it warm over the course of 1-2 hours.

Shampoo and condition as normal. Coconut oil, avocado oil, and also work quite well.

2. Eggs

What?! Eggs? Yes. Believe me, your hair will be silky and squeaky clean after.

How?

Whip 1 egg into a cup of water. Not too hot - you don't want to cook the egg. Lather into your hair and let sit for a few minutes, then rinse with cool water.

3. Bananas

One over-ripe banana, 4 tbs of olive oil, 2 tbs honey, and 2 tbs glycerin all mixed together in a blender make for a great conditioner.

How?

Apply the smooth mixture to your hair and let sit for 30 minutes.
Rinse and style your hair as normal.

4. Green tea

It’s not just for your tummy, or finding your zen, but can be great for your hair too.

How?

Steep 2 tea bags in 2 cups of boiling water. Once the tea has cooled, remove tea bags and pour green tea through your hair. Let this sit for about 5 minutes and rinse.

If the smell of green tea puts you off, use mint tea bags or dried mint leaves and strain the mixture before pouring through hair.

5. Mayonnaise

Yes, mayo is normally for salads and the like, but it can give your hair great sheen.

How?

Apply some full fat mayo (the non/low fat won't work as well) to your hair, put on a shower cap and let sit for 30 minutes, or make a deep penetrating conditioner by mixing 2 tbs full fat mayo with a medium sized avocado and applying it to your hair.

Once again, wear a shower cap and let sit for 30 minutes.
