6 reasons to attend the Franschhoek Literary Festival

accreditation
1.    The backdrop
Franschhoek is the perfect backdrop for both budding and professional writers to come together to discuss and inspire with seminars taking place in various chambers and halls throughout the quaint, picturesque town. And honestly, what’s not to love about Franschhoek

2.    The programme/authors
With nearly 200 authors and speakers attending the event, one can only imagine how impressive this literary festival is going to be. The event, which takes place from Friday to Sunday (13 – 15 May), will feature some of South Africa’s most popular and prolific writers. They will participate and discuss various issues impacting writers and readers today. The programme starts from 10h00 to 17h30 with a half-an-hour interval between each seminar.

3.    The Franschhoek Literary Festival (FLF) Library Fund
Since establishing the literary festival, the FLF has invested in providing and donating children’s books to various crèches and libraries. They’ve also established a school library project, which aims to build libraries for impoverished areas and provide training to library assistants. According to their site, the project has already put over 5000 books into local primary schools, influencing more than 3000 learners annually.

4.    A must for aspiring writers
If you are a budding author, this is the perfect platform to converse with and listen to renowned writers with years of experience. There will be a plethora of tips, as they will be tackling a variety of subjects.

5.    Book lovers shouldn’t miss it
There’s nothing better than seeing your favourite author and getting to interact with them face-to-face. This festival will give the opportunity to step into the mind of some of your favourite South African writers, including heavyweights like Deon Meyer and Lauren Beukes.

6.    For the younger minds
The FLF is a family book-loving event that caters for young boekwurms too, as there is an annual Spelling Bee which takes place on Saturday with a popular competition for primary school learners. There is also a two and a half hour children’s workshop, which is an additional R120, for high school learners or adults who want to write and learn these genres.

Tickets are still available.
