Get dressed in 5 minutes flat

accreditation

Do you ever find yourself standing in front of your overflowing wardrobe, feeling as if you have nothing to wear? Do you ever find yourself thinking: "Whose wardrobe is this anyway?"

If the answer is yes, then it's definitely time to take another look at that closet of yours.

One might say that our closets are a reflection of our lives. They reflect the various life stages we have been through; the events that shaped our lives; the way we feel about our bodies and the way we feel about ourselves. The question is; does your closet correctly reflect your life as it is now?

Most of us tend to hold onto items of clothing that no longer suit us, don't fit our bodies or suit the lives we live today. If this is true for you, then it's time for a wardrobe revamp.

Transform your skeleton closet
Here are some handy tips to help you through the process of transforming your skeleton closet to a functional wardrobe that helps you get dressed in 5 minutes flat.

1. Give some thought to what your lifestyle actually consists of: What roles do you play? How do you spend your time?
2. Determine what you would like your look to say about you. In other words, you may be a stay-at-home mom, but you don't want to fall into the rut of sloppy dressing, or you are a career woman but you don't want to look too stiff and corporate.
3. Go through every item of clothing, your shoes, and accessories and take out every item you have not worn in over a year. If the item doesn't suit your life as it is now, toss it (better yet, donate it to charity).

The items you need to get rid of may include:

  • "Thin" clothes you still wish you could fit into.
  • "Fat" clothes you are afraid you might need again.
  • Party dresses that have outlived their season (face it, you are never going to wear it again).
  • Items that still have tags on them.
  • Items you bought on sale, but never wore.
  • That old favourite you loved in the 80's that you hope will come back into fashion one day.
  • Items you are sure you will be able to pass down to your children when they grow up.

Once you have made space for the wardrobe you desire, remember to:

    1. Only fill your wardrobe with items that make you feel fabulous.
    2. Buy clothing for the body you have now (while you are at it, learn to love it).
    3. Buy clothing that suits your lifestyle.

This might feel like a laborious task, but getting rid of the old unwanted and unworn clothing allows you to create the possibility of using your outer appearance to truly reflect who you are today. Besides, if you only have clothes you wear on a regular basis, getting dressed in the morning will be a breeze.
