I love vintage clothing. There is nothing more thrilling than finding that perfect vintage piece that gives my wardrobe a unique look. If you are unsure of how to make the ‘vintage look’ chic, then these tips are for you:
Mix it up: Mix vintage and modern pieces together. If you wear all vintage pieces together, it can just look dated. For a modern edge, pair a vintage dress with a modern pair of heels and accessories or a retro jacket with a pair of slim leg jeans and pumps.
Up-cycle something old: Taking an old piece of clothing and altering it slightly to make it look more modern, is the latest trend. I’ve seen some very interesting old retro items made into fun, funky pieces. If you have a bit of sewing skill, go to second hand stores in search of items you can up-cycle. If serious sewing isn’t your thing, just look for shapeless pieces you can give shape by belting the waist or a blouse that just needs a change of buttons to give it a fresh look.
Vintage shopping: Since vintage shopping is the latest thing, there are amazing vintage stores popping up all over the place. Some stores offer great items, but for the price they are asking, you could buy something new. If you find something you really love, is unique and you’ll wear, it’s worth the price. Otherwise keep your eye out for more cost effective options.
