How to wear boots this winter

This winter, there are so many long boot styles to choose from.  Everything from the equestrian riding boots, sleek high-heeled long boots to rugged motorcycle riding boots.

A good pair of boots is wardrobe investment, so before you spend your hard earned cash on a pair you’ll only love for a season, read these top tips to finding your best pair.

1.    Consider your overall style.

If you mostly wear soft feminine dresses and skirts in winter, rugged motorcycle boots may not be the most practical style for you (unless that’s the look you are going for).

Rather select a pair of sleek high heeled boots that will complement your look.

2.    Determine the perfect length.

The length of the boot becomes important when the gap between the skirt and boot is seen.  If you wear skirts to just below your knee, select a boot that skims your hem.

For shorter skirts, make sure the gap is significant enough so it doesn’t make your legs look shorter. Make use of same colour tights to combat this problem.

3.    Find a pair that fits your calf well.

The ideal pair will fit around your leg without being too baggy or uncomfortably tight.  For women who have very slim calves, try the elasticated or slender styles that will hug your calves.

For those who have wide calves, try out styles that have elastic extensions or buckles that can be adjusted accordingly.  If boots aren’t comfortable, they are not worth the investment.

4.    Select a good neutral colour.

Believe it or not, black isn’t the only neutral. Dark brown, nude, camel, tan and grey are also great neutral shades to work with.

Consider what you have in your wardrobe and which colour will go best with most of what you have.  If you can afford more than one pair, buy your neutral pairs first before you go bold with colour.
