Fashion Week Cape Town 2012

accreditation
I was fortunate enough to be invited to the biggest and most sought-after event in the city's fashion diary. Of course I’m talking about the opening of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week CT 2012 which was held at the iconic Cape Town City Hall.

As a newbie, I was overwhelmed by the utter diversity of the crowd.

Everyone from politicians, celebs, designers, models, magazine eds, journos and the like were there… all for the very same thing: to ogle garments master-minded by some of our country’s finest designers and to socialise with the who’s who in the style industry.

Kicking off the Spring/Summer 2012 runway was Rosenwerth who has, through her many years in the industry, become synonymous with soft, feminine lines which are evident in her haute couture, bridal and ball gowns and even her ready-to-wear items.

Next, we witnessed Philosophy by Jenni Button. An explosion of print and colour that had me at the edge of my seat! Apart from its sheer boldness, I especially appreciated the functionality of her creations.

Finally, my eyes were blessed by Kluk CGDT’s extravaganza which took place in the main hall on an elevated stage, with a Disney Princess theme nogal! Accompanied by ballerinas and a symphony orchestra, it was more like a theatre production than a fashion show.

I fell in love with the mood and romance. But, it was the opulent fabrics used, the exquisite cuts, the pure luxuriousness of their offerings that really set my pulse racing. The way the design duo managed to capture the essence of womanhood was truly, um, enchanting. I almost shed a tear!

And this is just the beginning of the star-studded three-day affair.
