German-Turkish actress and model Sila Sahin has appeared in a 12-page nude spread in risqué men's magazine, Playboy, to the outrage of her family.
Sila, who appears on the cover with one breast exposed, says: "I did it because I wanted to be free at last. These photos are a liberation from the restrictions of my childhood."
"I want these photos to show young Turkish women it's OK for you to live however you choose," she added.
Prior to publishing the photos, Sila spoke to her father about the shoot and he was concerned about the backlash she would face from her community, reports Daily Mail.
Still, the model was shocked when her mother cut off contact with her and she is now seeking forgiveness.
"My mother is still angry," said Sila. "It will be even more difficult with my grandparents, my aunts and my uncles."
Sila's daring move has inspired debate about the Islamic concept of awrah (or awra), whereby men and women are forbidden from revealing certain parts of their body in public.
