No.1 Physicians and surgeons Women in this field can earn a median of R14 000 a week and about R700 000 a year. Even though male doctors generally earn more than their female counterparts, women have been making a mark in the medical industry by narrowing the gender specified pay gap.
No.2 Pharmacists Female pharmacists make about R699 000 annually with a median of around R13 – 14 000 weekly. This is nearly as much as physicians and surgeons but definitely more than chief executives. Women make up about 48% of the pharmaceutical profession and earn 27% less than male pharmacists.
No.3 Chief Executives With only 26% of women occupying the position of CEO in businesses it’s no surprise that they earn 28% less than their male counterparts. Nevertheless, this job is one of the highest paid in this country, almost rivalling pharmacists.
No.4 Computer software engineers Earning a median of around R650 000 annually, female computer software engineers and computer programmers make up 20% of their respective occupations but earn only 10% less than their male counterparts.
