On Friday the 23 of May, 22 year-old Elliot Rodger drove into a popular area of Santa Barbara and shot and killed 6 people and injuring 7 more before committing suicide.
According to a video Rodger posted on Youtube, he committed this mass murder to get back at “slutty girls” who didn’t want to go out with him despite the fact that he was such a “nice guy” and a “supreme gentleman”.
While Elliot Rodger clearly had unhealthy and entitled views, much of the response his heinous act evoked is downright scary. Facebook fan groups are calling him a hero who is finally teaching women their place, and MRA (Men’s Rights Activists) and PUA (Pick Up Artists) groups everywhere showed sympathy for him and blamed “stuck up bitches” for his actions.
In response to this the hashtag #YesAllWomen was created to highlight the daily sexism, misogyny and abuse women suffer across the world. Here are a few of the most powerful tweets.
