Beauty Review: Dr Hauschka Body Wash

Dr.Hauschka recently re-launched their body wash range and as someone that doesn’t normally use shower gels/body washes  (I prefer the old school bar of soap) I was quite impressed.

The smell of the Shower Balms is what I loved the most. And after reading more about it, I realised why. These people actually got a professional perfumer to create the fragrance compositions.  Impressive hey? (and probably also one of the reasons why the price tag is quite hefty...)

Anyway, I found myself only using only a little at a time, and mostly just on my neck and décolletage, so that I could smell delish all day (and savour the damn expensive stuff that I definitely can’t afford myself!)

I tried the Rose fragrance, and here’s what perfumer, Jörg Zimmermann, had to say about creating it:

“As I developed my ideas I kept the following questions in mind: What is the smell of a rose with nurturing and harmonising powers? What does it use to capture our attention? When you compare the fragrances of roses, you discover that there is a broad spectrum within the genus. I selected the most pleasing aspects. Usually fresh, citrus-like fragrances are emitted from the centre of the bud and develop as the rose opens. I discovered orange blossoms, delicate and spicy clove tones, and woody, velvety and creamy components. I was aiming for a creation in which the rose is light and playful, but at the same time very regal and seductive. A rosy and floral heart accord forms the main body around which the other individual aspects are grouped. A base with ambergris gives the composition a creamy and gentle finish, which I interpreted using sandalwood and vanilla. They radiate a mysterious and velvety depth.”

The formula of the new Shower Balms is also very finely balanced. One key ingredient is extract of quince seed, which protects the skin and has two very special properties. First, it activates the skin and boosts its ability to absorb and retain moisture. Second, the premium extract makes the Shower Balms even gentler. Formulated with a high content of rich botanical oils, the Shower Balms produce luxurious foam which not only pampers the skin, but also provides an extra touch of moisturising.

Available in Lavender Sandlewood, Lemon Lemongrass, Almond and Rose the body balms go for R215 for 200ml… But if you know Dr. Haushka products, you’ll also know that it isn’t your run of the mill shelf product. This is luxury skincare, ladies. And we all know that comes at a price.

The body balms will be available in stores from the beginning of June 2013 so keep a look out for it.
