5 things to consider before getting bangs

accreditation

Of course you are. We all are!

Yet, before getting bangs/a fringe/ the old choppie chop, think a bit about the why and the how and the impact this will have on your the rest of your life. Jeez, sorry. Maybe that was a tad melodramatic. It’s not exactly that serious. Yet it still requires a bit of thought.

1.    Do you sweat a lot? That is, what is your lifestyle like? Do you work out a lot? Run up 20 flights of stairs daily? Or perhaps work in Hong Kong? Um, humidity at 90%. All. The. Time. A sweaty forehead means a frizzy fringe. Many people think it's optimal to get a fringe in summer, yet winter is actually much more desirable conditions for bangs.

2.    Is there a semi-decent salon situated close to your home? If your home is anything like the Little House on the Prairie, getting bangs might not be favourable. Hair grows, which means your bangs will most likely quickly lead to impaired vision or simulate what a life lived behind a half-opened curtain feels like. So keep in mind that a bi-monthly trim might be in order. Luckily, most salons cut fringes for free.

3.    Styling. A mini hairdryer + round brush or a mini ghd might just become your handbag's new bestie. I’d say see which method works best for your specific hair type and go with that. Unfortunately fringes are a daily grind and will never be using the hashtag #wokeuplikethis

4.    Zooey Deschanel’s bangs are a lie. We all want that full, almost carpet-like fringed mop of hair made famous by our favourite New Girl, but it’s just not in your hairwheel, honey. If you have thick, semi-straight hair this could definitely work, yet fine haired mortals need to go the way of the feathery fringed fairy, notes Bustle.

5.    Accept the fact that micro or baby bangs might not even look good on babies. These might only work on French teenagers and Beyoncé, yet there is always room for delusional thinking, right? Fashionista notes that this is a commitment and something that you’ll have to work on every morning. Celeb hair stylist Ursula Stephen told Fashionista that micro bangs tends to highlight flaws. Or perceived flaws, that is. She says: “If you think you have a big nose, you’re just going to think it looks bigger with that hairstyle, and you have to have good eyebrows. If you really want short bangs, start with long bangs and then slowly creep into it.”

So rather start more conservatively and go from there, gals.
