I have been pretty sentimental about my hair and thought that I'd never in a million years cut it all off. But since the beginning of this year, I had been contemplating the big chop.
My relaxed hair had diminished on the sides and although this wasn't evident to others, it hurt me. This was my hair and my hair is my crown.
I used to take many selfies to get an idea of the hair I was letting go of, and on a particular Saturday in May, I decided it was time to shave it all off.
Almost dissuaded by load shedding, I found a barber who strangely, doesn’t use electricity.
I cut all my hair off.
There were a few guys in particular who were shocked. They could not understand why I would want to cut off such beautiful hair.
But I felt emotionally ready to let go of my Tsonga locks and, in case you’re wondering, I do rock short hair pretty well.

4 years ago, I got my boyfriend to shave all my hair off for me. It was the best and most risky experience ever.
I find that not many women would opt for the big chop, but I enjoyed every stage of my hair as it grew back. I would consider doing it again if I ever needed to.
