Top tips for protecting your hair colour

While celebrities switch-up their hues all the time, most of us can only hit the dye bottle every so often.

So what should you do to keep your strands colourful for longer?

Invest in quality products

Keep your colour looking vibrant for longer by using a professional shampoo or conditioner. Some brands may be cheaper but they are often not powerful enough to maintain colour to a noticeable standard.

Specifically, beware of cheaper haircare brands, especially when it comes to conditioners. These products are often filled with silicone to make the hair seem shiner and healthier, when in reality this ingredient may strip the colour in the long run.

Try a hair colourist

These people are experts at how hair colour works and can work wonders if you want to try something specific. Ask your hair colourist for advice on shampoos, conditioners and masks that you can use to maintain your colour. They can also advise you on toners and masks that will refresh your hair each time you wash it and help prolong the colour.

Avoid over-washing hair

To keep your dyed locks looking their best, try not to shampoo too often. This will help protect the colour as well as the natural oils within the strands. For best results, try to wash no more than twice a week. You can also speak to your stylist about how often to wash your hair as it may depend on the texture of your hair, whether it's natural or relaxed, and if your hair was bleached or dyed a darker hue.
