Beauty products we wish were a thing

accreditation

A lot of beauty products were created out of necessity – deodorant, shampoo and moisturiser are all essential to my everyday hygienic happiness. Makeup less so, but I do like a good mascara and lipstick.

And today there is basically a product for every 'need'. And products are created for, I'd argue, rather unnecessary concerns. Think brow gels, brow fillers, eye contouring kits, brow glows, brow shapers – and that’s just for brows! Do you really need a brow that is plucked, contoured, filled in, shaped, gelled in place and lit up?!

Manrepeller.com recently reported on a new beauty brand rising to notoriety because of its quirky new offering of products catering to needs (yes, real needs) rarely spoken of by women in public.

Read: Many women are now shaving their faces, but should you?

They're called Megababe and they sell Thigh Rescue, a thigh-chafe stick that is flying off the shelves. Soon they will introduce an underboob sweat spray.

Tapping into an untapped market has never looked so good!

This got me thinking about beauty/hygiene needs we have that aren’t yet catered to – mainly because of its seemingly embarrassing nature. Why are there so many products for grooming one’s brows, but (until recently) none for chafing thighs?

Why are we not talking about this? Because brows are trendy and attractive, and bushy brows make us feel like we are (or could be) Cara Delevingne. Chafing thighs do not have the same kind of allure, I fear.

I feel the conversation has to start with us, though. Like our reluctance to talk to each other about masturbation, I say let’s talk about sweaty bits instead of suffering through summer with raw thighs. Hate your buttne (butt acne)? Let’s chat.

Because these concerns are just as real as any other beauty concern. I would argue, even more so.

Just for fun I compiled my “I wish these beauty products existed in real life” wish list:

1.    A foot cream that works like a deodorant – secret socks just don’t work well enough!
2.    Butt, backne (back acne), chestne (chest acne) creams that are just as mainstream and specialised as facial acne products.
3.    A gel that dissolves unwanted hair from moles – no more plucking! Ouch!
4.    A balm that if applied before shaving will prevent ingrown pubic hair.
5.    A stick that deodorises and eliminates discolouration of the armpits.

We've shared ours, but now we want to hear from you. What's the one product (skincare, makeup or hair related) you wish the beauty industry would invent already? Share with us and we could feature your responses in a future article.
