When it comes to beauty products we tend to fall into the trap of buying what's super trendy or what our fav celebrity is wearing instead of what looks good on us.
And this is very common with lipsticks in particular.

Steps to note:
Find your undertone
According to Verilymag, the first step is to know what your skin undertone is.
Your skin undertone is the colour underneath the surface, it can be broken down into cool (pink, red or bluish), warm (yellow, green, peachy, golden) and neutral (a mix of warm and cool hues).
Remember: you can have the same skin colour as someone but have a different undertone.
Here’s how to identify your undertone:
Look at your wrists as your veins determine your undertone. If they look bluish it means you have a cool undertone and if they look green it means you have a warm undertone. If it’s difficult to tell what colour your veins are you are likely to be neutral.

Warm
If you have a warm undertone, lip colours such as warm reds and orange hues will complement you best.
Think warm and slightly sun-kissed pinks for lighter lipsticks. And for darker skin, berries will work well.
Ones to try:
Cool
You can go for soft, muted neutrals as well as bold and bright colours. Just make sure your bright reds and berries have a bit of blue, instead of warmer tones, in them.
Ones to try:
Neutral
If your undertone is neutral consider yourself very lucky because you can pull off almost any lip colour.
