There’s a reason so many of us are obsessed with eyebrows – they’re a defining feature on a face. The key to perfect eyebrows is getting to know your natural shape. There are three – the arch, the arc and straight. If your eyebrows have a steep incline, you’re likely to be an arch. Those with rounded hairs that resemble a rainbow have the arc shape, and anyone whose brows go across the forehead without much of a bend have the straight version.
Even the most beautiful, perfect brows need occasional maintenance. The power brow has become so popular that it’s even linked to a decline in tweezer sales. Here’s a rundown of each service to help you decide what is best for you:
TWEEZING
The pros: Tweezing is great because it’s incredibly DIY. You can use a pencil to draw your desired shape around your eyebrows and then tweeze around that, using the outline as a guideline. Invest in a good pair of tweezers.
The cons: If you tweeze incorrectly, it’s possible that the eyebrow hairs won’t grow back. It’s easy to over-tweeze, so be conservative rather than have regrets.
THREADING
The pros: Threading allows for a detailed definition of the shape of your brows, creating a more natural finish because you’re working closely with individual hairs. Technicians also move with more speed than they do with tweezing. Threading can be a fast way to amp up your shape if you’re looking for something new.
The cons: While the speed can be great, it can often also cause reckless hair removal. Ask your technician for the thread-and-tweeze technique – threading the natural brow line and tweezing away any stray hairs afterwards. Enquire about their practice before you allow them to touch you.
WAXING
The pros: Unlike other techniques, waxing tends to result in slower hair regrowth. If you have thick, coarse hair that grows back quickly, waxing is the best option – and also encourages thinner, softer hair.
The cons: The most common complaint about waxing is the temporary red halo it can create around the eyebrows. It tugs at the skin, so it’s not recommended for sensitive types.
