Mermaid eye makeup is the latest beauty trend to adopt

accreditation

The mermaid eye seems to be a makeup look taking over the red carpet, and blue eyeshadow (in all shades of blue) is a massive trend right now.

We loved Emily Ratajkowski Emmy's red carpet eye, which is why we wanted to steal the look for our own facial gain.

How to get the look:

1. Prep the eyes with an eyeshadow primer, I love Smashbox, MAC or Urban Decay.

2. Apply a teal eyeshadow from the center of the eyes to the inner corner making sure the shadow joins for the top and the bottom. Apply with a flat brush and then a pencil brush to apply into the inner corners. Try Inglot Pure Pigment eyeshadow in no. 71.

3. Take a navy eyeshadow and apply with a blending brush from the center of the eye on the top and bottom and wing out to create a cat eye shape. If you struggle with a blending brush take an angle brow brush and create you shape and then fill in with a flat brush. Try Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Rich Navy.

4. Line the top lash line and water line with a navy liner and then finish off with mascara on the top and bottom lashes. Try smudge navy liner from Clicks

I also love the more subtle mermaid eye as seen at a recent Diane Von Furstenberg show is a combination of a subtle green and light blue, which is definitely a more wearable daytime look:
