WATCH: How chrome nails are created

We recently did a hop, skip and a jump to Salt River to visit Marina Joy De Mink, a nail artist who's currently transforming the landscape of Capetonian nails, at her studio where she demonstrated some of the hottest nail trends currently worn the world over.

We've spotted the chrome nail trend online, but imagined it would be really tricky to achieve. Luckily, we were proven wrong.

The basics of chrome nails:

  • Paint your nails - natural or acrylic nail - with polish. Two coats should be sufficient.
  • Use a tack-free gel topcoat on the nail. Make sure it's completely dry.
  • Rub chrome pigment powder onto the nail using silicone tools, applying lots of pressure. Rub until it is smooth, not glittery.
  • The chrome look should last about 2-3 weeks.
  • The product can be removed by soaking.

See how it's done here:

Marina charges R260 for a full set on natural nails and R420 on acrylic nails with sculptured tips.
