So the other day I popped by the shop to get myself a new lipstick. I ended up leaving with a new mascara, nail polish remover, concealer and almost R500 less in my wallet. Unfortunately, this happens to me more often than it probably should.
To be frank, and I hate to admit it, I think I’m a sucker for anything that claims to make me more luminous, radiant, glowy and fresh-looking all at once.
According to Instyle women spend an average of nearly R230 000 on beauty products in their lifetime. And most of these products are add-ons, and not basic beauty essentials like moisturiser, sunscreen, etc.
So, we've compiled a list of beauty products you think you need but actually don’t:
1. Foot Mask
We love our feet and we want them to be soft and smooth, but we really don’t need to go as serious as a foot mask. Womansday.com stressed that all you really need to do is lather on some cheap-cheap petroleum jelly and they will be soft and smooth in no time.
2. Lip exfoliator
You might disagree with me, but hear me out. Our lips are a part of our appearance, and should always be on point, but you really don’t need an expensive exfoliator. Try gently brushing your lips with an old toothbrush or rubbing them with a towel. It’s truly as easy as that.
3. Neck cream
It’s really perfectly fine to use your face cream on your neck and décolletage as well. Neck and bust creams are often exorbitantly pricey and unnecessary.
4. Primer
Unless you are a stage performer or need your makeup to stay on for 24 hours, then primer really isn’t that necessary - especially lip and eyelash primer. These are novelty products that have definitely taken things too far.
5. Body-firming or cellulite lotions
Let’s face it; the only thing that actually works for firming skin is a) being young, b) toning by means of exercise and c) eating correctly. Sadly, this is the only way in which dimple free skin can be achieved. Sorry.
