5 local jetsetters share the beauty essentials they can't travel without

Whether it's a weekend away or a three-week holiday, I'm just terrible at packing. If packing is a bowl of soup, I'm definitely eating it with a fork - impractical and completely wrong.

But even in the midst of my overweight luggage woes, there are two things in my makeup bag I'll never go without; oil-free foundation and eyeliner.

Because travelling can be so exhausting and it often shows on my face, these two gems always manage to instantly liven up my visage.

I switch between different foundations, but my go-to foundation is Estée Lauder's double wear foundation and my eyeliner is the Essence long-lasting eye pencil in (01) black.

However, makeup is a temporary fix. You may be on holiday, but your skincare routine shouldn't be, so you definitely need to look after your skin while travelling.

That's probably why our beauty editor, Marisa Crous swears by Elizabeth Arden's 8 Hour Cream. A timeless wonder indeed.

Now let's find out what these travel aficionados refuse to travel without:

"The first beauty item I think of packing is my red lipstick from MAC. I am currently using MAC's Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour in 'Feels So Grand'.

My signature red lip is the one item that goes with everything, whether I'm on safari or going on an island vacation, this is the one beauty item that brings a pop to my outfit."  - Omphile Setiloane, travel curator

"My biggest skincare challenge when travelling was finding a face cream that would keep my skin smooth and moisturised without leaving my face looking shiny and feeling greasy.

My skin is extremely dry, so I use the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Face cream. I love that it's a water gel. It hydrates my skin and absorbs very quickly after I apply it."  - Ondela Mlandu, travel journalist

"The one beauty item that I have to take with me on holiday would have to be my waterproof mascara – travelling without it I do tend to feel a bit naked.

I think a dash of mascara can wake up my eyes. And to be honest there is another item I cannot do without and that is my Solar defense booster by Dermalogica that is tinted – it acts as a foundation as well so it is a bonus!" - Ishani Chetty, Traveller24

"It doesn’t matter where I’m off to, I always have space in my luggage for my Virgin Coconut Oil Leave-In by Shea Moisture.

Being that I’m always on the go, I am always in-search of products that works quickly and works well. The Virgin Coconut Oil leave-in helps to maintain moisture, it styles leaving no residue and it smells great. My hair loves it!" - Shea Powell, The World Up Closer
