It’s almost that time of the year where we start thinking about holidays and start buying new swimsuits in preparation for summer. However, this season often comes with a few potential skin difficulties.
That's why it’s important to make sure your skin is ready to brave the hot weather yet to come.
Try these simple steps to make sure your skin is summer ready:
1. Exfoliate your body
This is very basic, but yet the most important step to getting your skin ready for summer. Exfoliating clears away dead skin, improves hydration, circulation and moisturises your skin.
Try this!
1. Choose a scrub of your choice and add 4 tablespoons of chickpea flour, a pinch of turmeric powder and 5 drops of rose water with milk or yogurt.
2. Mix everything into a paste and use it to exfoliate your face or your entire body. You can do this at least twice a week and it will keep your skin smooth and moisturised.
2. Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise
You know how you get more thirsty when it gets hot? Well, so does your skin and moisturising it begins with using the right soap. This is vital as some soaps can be harsh on the skin due to their heavy scent, which can cause dryness.
Also make sure you're using the right kind of moisturiser. You must first know what your skin type is in order to know what kind of moisturiser is best.

3. Wear sunscreen
Sunburn does not only hurt, but it can lead to bad skin damage, pre-mature ageing and a host of health problems including skin cancer.

Studies have shown that 80% of wrinkles and premature ageing is due to the damage of sun exposure - so save your skin from this by using sunscreen with a high SPF daily.
4. Keep your skin hydrated
Keeping your skin hydrated is essential, especially in summer as the body loses more fluids through sweat. One of the foremost ways to keep your skin hydrated is by drinking plenty of H2O (but only when you're thirsty).
Also concentrate on maintaining a well-balanced diet. Indulge in foods that are high in fluid content such as fresh fruits and vegetables.
5. Shower smart
Long, hot showers wash away the skin’s protective oils, so skip them and go for cooler, shorter ones that won’t take longer than 10 minutes.
Also make sure that you avoid using shower gels with excessive lather as they strip your skin of its natural oils.
According to Heather Woolery-Lloyd, the co-founder of Specific Beauty skincare, failing to rinse soap completely off your body can be irritating due to the fragrance and chemicals they contain.
