Multi-masking is the name given to applying different masks on the areas of your face at the same time, to respond to each area’s specific needs. The multi-coloured mask trend has been seen being sported on Instagram by beauty fans, and it doesn’t just look pretty – it works as well!

One mask really can’t heal all your skin woes, so depending on your lifestyle and the needs of your skin, try the multi-masking application approach to tackle your skin’s individual requirements.

For example, under your eyes may be dry, your cheeks blemish-prone, and your nose oily. So instead of taking a one-and-done approach, treat different areas with different needs at the same time, by creating bespoke, tailor-made treatments.

Whether you're after increased radiance, a boost in hydration or some help reviving your skin after a late night, there's a multi-masking combination to suit you.

Read on for our guide to the skincare trend.

How to multi-mask

The optimal time to apply multiple formulas is after showering. The steam helps loosen any debris that are clogging pores. First read each mask’s instructions and map out a timing plan. Apply longer duration masks first and shorter contact ones later. To ensure you hit hard-to-reach spots, like the crevices around your nose, and to make it look pretty for the ‘gram, use a foundation brush with synthetic bristles to apply.

Start by applying the Eye Contour Mask to the eye area and the eyelids to fade signs of tiredness and lack of sleep. Then, apply a thick layer of the Black Rose Cream Mask to the face and the neck. The beautifully fragranced Black Rose mask will reduce signs of tiredness and provide a youthful vitality to your skin. After 10 minutes, wipe off the excess of these two masks, without rinsing, with the help of a tissue.

Create a bespoke treatment

Each area of your face is its own special often needs some individual time and attention. Whether you need something to clear blemishes or brighten skin L'Oreal Paris has created a series of masks perfect for creating your own bespoke treatment. L'Oreal Skin Expert Pure-Clay Glow, Detox (Black) Purity (Green) Blemish Rescue (Blue) and Brighten (Yellow) will deal with all your skin woes. And teaming the different colours will make for a fun picture too.

Be strategic when slathering

To restore radiance to a tired, shiny complexion, apply a thick layer of Sisley’s Deeply Purifying Mask with Tropical Resins to shiny areas, such as the forehead, nose and chin. This skin-saving routine balances the epidermis and minimises pores. After five minutes, apply the Radiant Glow Express Mask to the cheeks, the mouth contour area and the neck. This “radiance glow” mask gently cleanses the skin. Leave on for five minutes, then rinse the whole face with lukewarm water for even and radiant skin. Don’t forget - the more masks, the better the selfie!
