However, for many of us the thought of donning spaghetti straps and shorter hemlines, fills us with dread as we think about how dehydrated our skin is.
Is my skin glowing, or is it ashy? Is it too dry? Is it uneven? These are all questions we ask ourselves. Kateko Ramoshaba, from body skincare experts Clere says that the first and most important step for even looking and glowing skin is hydration. Hydrated skin is moisturised and the skin does not only look good, but it also helps to prevent premature aging and has improved elasticity.
How to check if your skin is dehydrated? Kateko provides tips to determine if your skin needs additional hydration:
- The most obvious sign that your skin is dehydrated is if it is coarse to the touch, flaky and has dry patches.
- Sensitive skin is usually in need of additional moisturisation, especially on more sensitive areas like your elbows and heals.
- Your urine is also an indicator of whether you are dehydrated; if you are properly hydrated it will be almost clear in colour.
- Increased thirst or a dry and sticky mouth. Hot weather requires us to increase our water intake. Remember, if you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated.
If you are experiencing any of the above, Ramoshaba recommends increasing your water intake and using a nourishing body lotion or crème.
