Of course we all want our complexion to look like Emily Ratajkowski's and Lily Aldridge's. Yet, enlarged pores and blackheads are very common skincare concerns, and can be stubborn and tough to eliminate.
According to Paula’s Choice, pores enlarge when they are clogged. The pores become clogged when dead skin cells mix with an excess production in oil, causing blackheads. This, of course, is not ideal. We want them eliminated!
In terms of skincare, preventing clogged pores is key. But with so many methods available online, who knows which are effective and which might end up causing you more harm than good - even aggravating the already inflamed pore.
Don’t
Blackheads cannot be reduced by washing your face more frequently
In reality, this only aggravates the skin more and will cause damage to your pores. According to Blackhead Expert, washing your face with a gentle face wash twice a day is enough.
What works for pimples won’t necessarily work for blackheads
A single cleansing will not work for all problem areas. Each area is unique. If you’re trying to clear up blackheads then you should avoid products containing benzoyl peroxide. While it’s great for pimples, they won’t clear up the pores.
Dos
Exfoliate
According to New York-based dermatologist, Neal Schultz, a glycolic acid and tea tree oil-based, synergetic exfoliator pools deep enough into the pore to clear it up overnight. If you don't want to go for harsher exfoliators, try Kiehl's Dermatologist Solutions Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate, R750.00 / 30ml.
Apply before going to bed and it will gently exfoliate the skin as you sleep. This is, undoubtedly, our favourite product of the moment.
Parsley and thyme
Boiling parsley or thyme in a large bowl and, once cooled down, dipping your facecloth into the bowl and applying it to your face is a great way to pull toxins from the skin and cleansing pores using organic ingredients.
