As someone whose job it is to write every day (which I do at Parent24.com), words are so special. At times they all seem to jumble together. Especially after a long day of looking for the perfect word.
Here are my 5 favourite words. Nothing fancy or too clever. Just words that I love.
1) Whimsical
- Playfully quaint or fanciful, especially in an appealing and amusing way.
The word whimsical immediately makes me think of spinning and laughing and blowing bubbles. Joy.
2) Bizarre
- Very strange or unusual.
I went through a stage of using this word to describe everything I found odd. Things tasted bizarre, looked bizarre, sounded bizarre. It’s still a favourite of mine.
3) Gelatinous
- Having a jelly-like consistency.
This word makes me laugh. I always think of a colossal bowl of jelly just waiting for someone to dive into it. Ooo, wobbly. I once heard someone use this word to describe another person. That’s mean and it upset me. I soon came to the conclusion that the mean person was an idiot and then I felt better.
4) Magical
- Beautiful or delightful in a way that seems removed from everyday life.
I’m sure the word magical was created with the thought of whenever it was said you would breathe deeply and almost sigh the word. Also, there should always be a smile on your face after. Try it.
5) Imagination
- The faculty of imagining, or of forming mental images or concepts of what is not actually present to the senses.
The word imagination brings with it images of wide-eyed curiosity, searching for fairies at the end of the garden and being transported into make-believe worlds where anything is possible. Imagination is by far my favourite word because no one can take it away from you.
