I Heart Vegas by Lindsey Kelk (Harper)

I am officially addicted to Lindsey Kelk's "I heart…" series. I've followed the protagonist, Angela Clarke, from New York (where she fell in love), to Hollywood (which was rather bizarre), to Paris (where she had a career crisis). Now she's dazzled by the bright lights of Vegas.

At this point in the series, Angela is in a happy relationship with her rocker boyfriend Alex. She's living the dream in New York – until she gets fired, that is.

After trying desperately to get a new job, Angela's had no luck and then she gets a letter from the immigration department. This is where things get interesting.

Angela's best friend, Jenny, suggest a whirlwind trip to Las Vegas to destress. Jenny is also adamant that the easiest solution for Angela's Visa worry is to just marry Alex. But what will Alex think? Will he feel used? And is this really the right way to get married? And will this jeopardise her relationship?

I don’t know what it is with chicklit authors who decide their protagonists should perpetually be on the verge of hysteria. I've found this in Sophie Kinsella's writing too.

Sure, it's funny but sometimes the heroine can seem like a ditsy airhead. Lindsey Kelk errs worryingly close to that stereotype. And, well, I like my women stronger.

That said it took me just over a day to read I heart Vegas. It's frothy, light fun which you'll get hooked on. The story unfolds at such a dizzyingly fast pace which can leave you breathless, and the the dialogue has really funny moments.

Overall, it's a light read and even if you haven't read the previous books in the series, you'll be able to pick up the storyline pretty quickly.

I hear Lindsey is currently working on I Heart London. I'm looking forward to it.
