I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella (Bantam Books)

Meet Poppy (ugh, couldn't Sophie Kinsella come up with a better name?).

Anyways. Let's try this again.

Meet Poppy. She is engaged to Magnus – an adequately geeky name for her super-intelligent fiancé, no? Magnus proposed with a stunning ring which has been in his family for three generations. Except, Poppy's just lost the engagement ring.

That's how we meet Sophie Kinsella's new protagonist: sitting in a hotel room in Paris, hounding the staff and hunting vociferously for Magnus's family heirloom. Through an unexpected sequence of events, Poppy also manages to lose her cell phone, and picks one up from a bin in the hotel.

The problem is, this phone belongs to Sam Roxton, an attractive businessman who wants his PA's mobile back and doesn't care that Poppy's in the middle of this crisis. Okay, well, maybe he cares a little bit…

I'm pretty sure you can guess how the rest of the story goes (it is chicklit after all…) but you should still pick up a copy of I've Got Your Number. Here's why:

•    It's written by Sophie Kinsella, the author of Confessions of a Shopaholic. Even if you didn't like Shopaholic, if you're in the mood for a fun read, you will enjoy this one.

•    Poppy is much more likeable than the heroine in Shopaholic. For one thing she's more practical and down-to-earth and does not have an unlimited credit limit. For another, Poppy is a "panicker".

I love this because I can relate to it. Haven't we all had a week when everything seems to go downhill and you run around like a chicken without a head? I find it comforting to read about Poppy freaking out – it makes me feel normal.
•    Who doesn't need a good laugh? I'm not talking about a mild chuckle under your breath. I'm talking about laughing out loud – in public. Thus having strangers glaring at you.

And you know what? You won't even care, because you are too busy enjoying the feeling of tears running down your cheek. Plus you can't wait to see what happens on the next page.

•    Whilst there is a clear winner throughout the love triangle, the book gets more interesting around two-thirds in when a certain secret about the ring comes to light. It's such a goody, I'm already excited for you to find out about it.

•    I read this book in a weekend – that never happens because usually I would rather go out for a glass of wine with friends than stay in reading alone. Not in this case. I actually turned down a date (no wonder I'm single), so I could finish this book.

•    Because when you finally get to the last page, you will be grinning to yourself. Not in a bad "I'm so glad I finally finished that book" way, but in a good "Wow! That was so much fun!" way.

I particularly recommend this book if you're going through a break-up, pregnancy, feeling like a lonely singleton or if you've had a bad day at work. In fact, you should read it every Monday (all Mondays suck, don't they?). It's an instant mood-lifter.

Kinsella? I'm hooked. Keep the great heroines coming – but please give them better names. Poppy? Really?!
