Tithe by Holly Black (Simon & Schuster)
Tithe is the first book in a series about Kaye, a teenager with a “then rockstar then rock bottom” mom, a small handful of oddball friends and the ability to see fairies.

When she moves back to her hometown she meets a beautiful, but deadly, fairy knight with an arrow in his chest. Roiben is a Knight of the evil queen of the Unseelie court and although Kaye is pretty scared of him, she is also pretty attracted to him. But then, who wouldn't be?

Between dealing with her awkward gay friend, a few evil waterhorses and one seriously skanky teenage boy, Kaye learns that there's a war going on between the Seelie and the Unseelie courts. And she's slap bang in the middle of it.

As the book unfolds we learn that there is something sinister going on with Roiben and Kay finds out a few unexpected truths about herself and her past.

This book is young adult fiction – and although Holly Black doesn't always get it perfectly right, it is a fun book to read in the bath.
