Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows - Part 2

We can't believe that Harry Potter is coming to an end and judging from all the fantastic promotional material we've seen  (including the epic trailer below), we're going to be in for the showdown of a lifetime.

Possible spoiler alerts below if you haven't watched the first movie (or read the book), so look away now.

We last left off where Voldemort desecrated Dumbledore's grave and stole the Elder Wand.

In this movie, you can expect a cooking pot of dark magic, Hogwarts as you've never seen it before and the unexpected death of a very well-known character (whose name I won't reveal for the sake of those who haven't read the books).

The movie is released worldwide on the 15th July, so make sure you book early. The cinemas are going to be packed.

Breaking Dawn - part 1
Another pop culture phenomenon which has taken the world by storm, Breaking Dawn - Part 1 signals the beginning of end for the Twilight Saga.  Want to know what you can look forward to?

(Spoiler alert for those who haven't read the books)

Most of the movie production details have been kept under wraps. But we’ve been taking hints from the still shots and the movie trailer which have been released and it seems as if Breaking Dawn - Part 1 will be focusing on Bella and Edward's journey as a married couple, Bella's pregnancy and the birth of baby Renesmee.

Oh, and let's not forget the rage and emo-ness of a certain and often shirtless werewolf. All in all, it doesn't make for a very exciting first half. Still, I'm sure most Twi-hards are counting down the days until the 18 November, when Breaking Dawn hits the big screens worldwide.

One Day by David Nicholls
Next to Harry Potter, the one movie that I'm really looking forward to is One Day. The movie is based on the book by David Nicholls, which is one of my favourite reads of last year (read my review here) and tells the story of Emma and Dexter who first met on July 15th, 1988.

The book chronicles their journey for the next two decades, with every July 15th detailing what is going on in their individual lives. Readers are taken on a fantastic journey of the ups and downs of their friendship and a love story that's been in the making for more than 20 years.

Sounds like a simple enough premise doesn't it? Except that David Nicholls is an exceptional writer who captures the very essence of two people who aren't always that likeable and churns out one of the greatest love stories you'll ever read. Best thing about it? It has such unconventional ending – read the book before you see the movie.

The movie is set for release in early August.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (US film version)
I must admit that I'm probably one of the last few people who hasn't read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo yet.

I'm no fan of Swedish crime fiction, but I can't help but wonder why there's such a need to recreate an Americanised version of a movie trilogy that has already been done (Anyone watched the Swedish version of the movies? What did you think?).

Then again, Hollywood seems to have this horrible “anything you can do, I can do better” mentality. They've also released a movie version of Let the Right One In (the US movie is titled Let Me In), which is based on the novel by Swedish author, John Ajvide Lindqvist.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is set for release on the 21 December. You can check out our review of all three books here, here and here.
