5 natural bridal hairstyles worth ditching your veil for

accreditation

Ever since mainstream media started embracing natural hair in all its forms, there has been less pressure on women of colour to "tame" their hair for red carpet events and special occasions such as weddings.

More brides are giving their 22-inch Peruvian weaves a break and showing off their coils, curls and plaits. This is not to say there's anything wrong with straight tresses, but we're just happy that opting for a natural look is no longer seen as a "less glamorous" decision.

Especially not after you've seen these five stunning natural bridal hairstyles:

1. Dreadlock updo/side-do

You can still pin your veil on the back of your head with this one. But be sure to go get your locs done the day before because dreadlocks not only take a good year to dry, but the process of twisting and locking them before styling is also a lengthy one.

2. Twist it out

A low-maintenance do, which means you can either sleep in a bit on your big day or spend more time perfecting that face beat.

3. Bridal braids

Braids are loved for their versatility, protectiveness and the fact that you can still achieve the classic bun with them.

4. Blow dried afro

Watch your mane dance with the wind in your wedding videos and photos or have your hairdresser style it intricately with jewels or flowers as finishing touches.

This do is giving us sooo much life.

5. No hair? Who cares?
