Diamond sells for record R969 million

accreditation

According to the BBC.com, a rare pink diamond was recently auctioned off for in Hong Kong for just over $71million (that’s R969 487 849) in an auction. The beautifully cut and polished diamond is 59.6 carat stone and oval-shaped.

The diamond was bought after a mere five minutes of heated bidding, but believe it or not, this is not the first time it’s been up for auction.

CNN.com reports that back in 2013, the diamond actually sold for $83million (R1 132 245 915), but the buyer failed to pay for it, hence the new auction which was won by Hong Kong based jewellery company, Chow Tai Fook.
