Stories about what could go wrong on a wedding day are in no short supply. But this bride will never forget this particular day!

Clayton and Brittany Cook were having their pictures taken on a bridge in Victoria Park in Cambridge, Ontario, after their wedding ceremony when their special day almost turned into a nightmare.

The couple spoke to Tina Yazdani of Canada’s CTV News about the moment a little boy almost drowned. The couple were taking a photo while group of children had been playing along the water’s edge.

“I look over and I see Clay in the water and I think, ‘What’s he doing?’ ” Brittany said about the moment her husband saved the boy’s life.

“It was like fate almost – we were meant to be there,” she said in the CTV News interview

Wedding photographer, Darren Hatt, was taking pictures of the couple when he realised what was happening. It appears the little boy, whose name isn’t known, had been shoved into the river by one of the other children.

Darren says the child was under the water by the time they noticed something was happening.

Before anyone else could react, Clayton jumped into the river – wedding suit and all – and plucked the child from the water by his arm, placing him safely on shore.

The little boy never said a word. Two of the other kids admitted to shoving him into the water. And Brittany’s reaction to her new hubby’s heroic deed? She says it didn’t surprise her in the least.

“That’s Clay . . . It’s something he would just instinctively do.”

Darren captured the whole thing on camera and posted some of the pictures on his Facebook page. Since then, the pictures have gone viral and Clayton’s been receiving praise from all over the world.

Maria Da Graca Branco from Toronto in Canada wrote on the Hatt Photography Facebook page that it’s a beautiful way for the couple to start their new life together – by giving back to the community.

“He’ll be in that little boy’s heart forever,” Maria wrote.

Rosiane Bandeira from Brazil added: “It’s beautiful to see there are still good people in the world. God bless you!”

“He who saves a life, saves the world,” was the comment left by Lorenzo Parioli from Italy.
