Wedding dress shopping is at once both a wonderful and a nightmarish task.
When you’re shopping for a dress, your aim is to buy something that you won’t regret for the rest of your life (it sounds dramatic, but there will be photographic evidence of your big day after all).
If any of the points below are ringing bells for you, it’s time to think twice before you settle on that dress.
1. It’s way out of your price range.
While you certainly can expect to go beyond your budget during your planning, consider the fact that you'll probably only wear the dress once.
Find a more affordable dress – there’ll be plenty that are similar to what you want. If all else fails, take a photo, and have that exact dress made by someone who won’t charge you the price of a house for it.
2. It fits, but you don’t feel comfortable in it.
The dress looked great in the display window and it fits you, but you’re just not sure if you like the way it makes you feel. Ditch it immediately. Any bride-to-be will tell you that getting a perfect dress is not just about it being pretty and having a good fit; it’s also about you feeling at ease and confident in the gown.
Also, some gowns are designed to make you feel as if you’ve stepped into a medieval torture device, so if you struggle to walk or breathe in it, then it’s definitely a sign you should step back from that dress.
3. You keep looking around at other dresses even though you’ve supposedly found “the one.”
If you find that perfect wedding dress that just speaks to you, trust me, you’ll be too busy planning the rest of your wedding to wonder if the dress you chose is the right one.
If you keep comparing the dress you want to buy or rent, to other bridal gowns, chances are that you’re not ready to accept the gown you’re considering as your perfect match.
