How we met:

A mutual friend invited us to a graduation party, and bubu (my pet name for my husband) came with his friend so that we could all go to the venue together.

Surprisingly enough, he was quite unlike his friends. Because of this, I asked him if he was okay, and that’s when the conversation started.

We spoke for hours and we clicked on so many levels that it felt like he was a male version of me.

At one point, he even said that if it was up to him he would marry me right there and then. I thought to myself then that he clearly didn’t know how to hit on a girl, but decided to give him the benefit of the doubt.

We exchanged numbers and soon, his good morning calls turned into my morning alarm. From there, our friendship grew into the relationship we have today.

How he proposed:

One night when we were out on a date he informed me that he wanted to go and pay lobola. I was so excited until I realised that it wasn’t the perfect proposal that I’ve dreamt about.

There was no ring on my finger and all we had was just dates for the lobola negotiations.  The negotiations went well and after the ceremony he gave me an engagement ring in front of our family and relatives.

A few months down the line he took me to a BMW dealership. It was a week before my birthday, and he told me that he needed to enquire about something.

I was a bit agitated because we had to drive to the North West for a wedding and we didn’t have a car to go with because his car was in for repairs.

He asked me to look around for the car I liked, and at that point, I decided to just quickly look around so that we could be on our way to the wedding.  When we were about to leave the dealership he asked me to go look at a Valencia Orange BMW 1 series 2016.

It was a car that had been polished and was ready for delivery to the owner.  With a tear down his cheek, he told me the car was mine.

His exact words were:  “Bubu, will you be my wife?" I was in shock and told him to not joke like that. Actually, I don’t even remember answering him because I started crying and we sealed the deal with a kiss.

Date of the wedding:

We decided on the 3 December for the white wedding and the 10 December for the traditional ceremony at the groom's home.

We are from different provinces and because of this, we decided to have two weekend celebrations;  first at my place, and then at his.

Our friend told us about a place called The Venue at Hartswater.  When we saw the place it had all the details we liked that would fit in perfectly with the vintage themed wedding we had in mind.

We loved the place so much that we decided to go with it on the spot - for both the matrimonial ceremony and the reception.

At Solomondale, we had our traditional ceremony and the theme was modern tradition which turned out beautifully.

We shared responsibilities with regards to handling and communication with our service providers and with the help of our families and friends, our dream came true.
