How we met:
"I waited a long time to find someone to marry and when they say it happens at the most unexpected time, they're not lying. Waylon and I met when he joined our department at work in 2014. At first, I didn't give the possibility of us a thought. We became friends. That was not his end goal...after persisting and being rejected many times, I said yes to a relationship.
"I felt that even though there was this 18 year age gap between us, I really connected with the person. We had spoken about all the pitfalls and whatifs, but wasn't life about daring and giving ourselves a chance? I'm so happy I dared to take that chance...it's been the best decision I've ever made." - Vanessa

How he proposed:
"He officially proposed on the 8 April 2016, two days before my birthday (although we knew this was it for some time, so much so that we booked our photographer in Feb!) I knew it was coming and was insistent that I didn't want anything lavish and public...this was between him and me.
"That Friday I went to a family function and he kept pestering me about when I was coming home, to the point where I was annoyed. I never expected him to be standing there with a ring, in front of this sign which was special because he'd taken the time to make it himself!
"He went down on his knee and asked me to marry him, giving me all the reasons why he loved me and why he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I, of course, was in snot and trane...I said YES, then asked him to repeat everything again as I was so overwhelmed.
"I loved that it was just the two of us and that the sincerity towards this commitment was so clear. Oh and I still have that sign tucked away safely."

About the wedding:
"We decided to marry on the 27th of August 2016.
"We had already secured our photographer, Michelle Lategan, after stalking her work on Facebook. Michelle's style is photo-journalistic and her pics are amazing, so we knew we'd be in good hands.
"As we only had a few months, finding a venue was important. We were bowled over by the warm hospitality of Dave and his team at Suikerbossie in Hout Bay and the wonderful views."
