Don’t be late. Or early.
Arriving late is obviously idiotic – but arriving too early can look equally stupid. Do you find it impossible to attend a scheduled meeting? Then why arrive a half an hour early? If you’re worried that you’re going to be late and you make sure you’re very early, wait outside for heaven’s sake. Walk into the building 5-10 minutes before your appointment.
Dress appropriately.
Sure you want to look smart, but when you dress, keep in mind what type of job you are applying for. For instance, wearing an Armani suit when applying for an internship at a newspaper is a surefire way to make you feel out of place. And hey, you don’t want to look unaffordable. Also, and I’m loathe to say this, go easy on the cleavage and thighs, eh?
Ask questions.
Remember, they’re not only interviewing you, you’re also interviewing them. Just as they trying to figure out if you’re right for the job, it’s necessary that you make sure that this is the right job for you.
Do your research.
This sounds so simple but you’d be surprised how many people just don’t do this. Make sure you know what the company does. Who their competitors are. What the job will entail. Which qualifications will count in your favour. What other skills might be helpful. The name of the person you’ll be working for. Etc.
Take a hard copy of your CV.
Or at least your contact details. And make sure there are no spelling errors in this document!

Saying your weak points are perfectionism and over-working makes you sound like a tit. I have a friend who once replied to the “so what are your bad points” question with “I’m scared of penguins and I stutter when I’m drunk.” He got the job.
