The Sunshine Sisters by Jane Green (first published in 2017 by Pan Macmillan)
It’s not easy growing up in the shadow of a famous mother, as Ronni Sunshine’s three daughters know only too well.
She has always been selfish and harsh to the older daughters - and over-indulgent to the youngest. Now, as adults, Nell, Meredith and Lizzy are estranged not only from their ageing mother, but also from each other.
Each has her own difficulties to cope with: Nell is running her farm on the brink of financial disaster; Meredith is marrying a man who controls her every move; and Lizzy’s demanding business and marriage are pulling her apart.
When they get the summons to Ronni’s sickbed, the sisters aren’t sure whether to believe she is really ill or to feel manipulated once again by a narcissistic celebrity who never really seemed suited to her real-life role as mother.
There are choices to be made, and the chance for each to find a new way to tackle her own issues – if they can overcome the childhood resentments that keep them trapped in a destructive pattern.
A warm and entertaining read about family and friendship from the always-reliable Jane Green.
