Is Rihanna the new Princess Diana?

Camille Paglia wrote a 2000-word feature comparing Riri to the mother of Prince Harry and William. Now, while I and surely many of you think this is an odd comparison to make, the article is not necessarily about reputation, but looks more at the mindset of two very famous, but mistreated women.

If you think about it, it’s a fair comparison to make. Both women became extremely famous overnight. One, a pop star from Barbados, who became well-known for her suggestive music and odd antics, as well as her relationship with Chris Brown.  The other a kindergarten aide who became a well-loved princess, icon and hero to millions.

Rihanna is constantly being photographed, and when she isn’t at an event, or out in public, she takes to Instagram and Twitter to update her legion of fans on her whereabouts and various, er, habits.

Princess Di was also plagued by the paparazzi. The media was even blamed for the car crash which killed her, Dodi Fayed, and the driver Henri Paul. Although, I doubt whether Princess Di would have tweeted her every move if she had lived to the age of Twitter and Facebook.

So, what does Riri think of all this? “Just so happens I came home drunk to this in a pile of papers outside my hotel room! My lil Bajan behind, never thought these many people would even know my name, now it's next to Princess Diana's on the front of a newspaper! Life can be such a beautiful thing when you let it be #yourejealous,” said the star said on Instagram along with a picture of the front page of the Sunday Times.

We just hope that Rihanna doesn’t end up the same way that Diana did.
