The portrait was not received well by critics. Robin Simon, editor of the British Art Journal, described it as ‘rotten’, but the Duchess says “It’s just amazing. Absolutely brilliant.” But then, what was she supposed to say?
I think the portrait makes Kate look like she’s 55 instead of 31, but who am I to tell the Royal family that it makes Kate look positively awful?
The artist might not be completely to blame for Kate’s aged appearance in the portrait.
According to the artist, Paul Emsley, who grew up in South Africa, Kate choose which picture the artist should use (pictured above). Is it just me, or does she look like she needs to pee?
So, all things considered, maybe the portrait isn’t that bad after all? You decide.
