Life must be tough for beauty queens. Especially in the age of Youtube, where their failures will be re-watched, and laughed at, by millions.

One of the judges, NeNe Leakes, asked Marissa this question: “A recent report shows that in 40% of American families with children, women are the primary earners, yet they continue to earn less than men. What does this say about society?”

She paused thoughtfully, considered the question, and then responded with this:

“I think we can relate this back to education, and how we are… continuing to try to strive to [pause] figure out how to create jobs right now. That is the biggest problem. And I think, especially the men are… um… seen as the leaders of this, and so we need to try to figure out how to create education better so we can solve this problem. Thank you.”

So, what did she have to say about her now infamous stuff up?

Appearing on the Today Show, she revealed to Matt Lauer that “The question was a little bit confusing to me and I just started speaking without really processing,” (yeah, we figured) and then took a second shot at the question.

“So, this is not okay. It needs to be equal pay for equal work. And it’s hard enough already to earn a living, and it shouldn’t be harder just because you’re a woman.”

Now if only she had said that on stage.
