12 movie scenes that always give you feels

accreditation

There are movies that make us laugh and make us cry. These are the ones that stay with us long after we’ve watched them, and sometimes they actually shape our lives. Sometimes it’s the entire film, and sometimes it’s just that one scene that really gets to you.

This is a list of scenes from movies that will make you feel things.

There are spoilers, so if you haven’t seen these movies, #sorrynotsorry.

The Help
When Aibileen has to leave Mobley Mae
Aibileen is fired by Miss Leefolt after Hilly Holbrook accuses Aibileen of stealing silver as a ploy to get her fired. Aibileen has to say goodbye to Mae Mobley, and you can see both their hearts break as Aibileen walks away from the little girl she truly loved. Mae Mobley screams for her to come back while hitting the living room window as she watches the woman who raised her walk away.

The Truman Show
The edge of the world
After finding out that his entire life is one gigantic reality TV show, Truman finally decides  to make a break for it, and goes on a tumultuous journey to break out of the studio that has been his life. As he discovers the exit, the creator of the show tries to convince him to stay, but he eventually says goodbye using his famous catchphrase and takes a bow.

Up
The opening montage
Nothing has ever been this heart-warming and depressing at the same time. NOTHING. You see Carl and Ellie meet as kids, eventually marry, find and decorate their home, build their life together – and then we find out Ellie can’t have kids. She’s sad, but eventually they decide to focus on achieving their dream of going to South America. They try to save, but life gets in the way. Eventually, Ellie gets sick and dies. And this is why Carl is such a grumpy old man.

The Pursuit of Happyness
Tomorrow’s your first day
Christopher Gardner goes through losing his wife, home, and all his money while having to look after his young son. Miraculously he eventually gets a chance to be a broker, but has to go through 6 months of unpaid training. On his last day, he gets called into the office with the big bosses who tell him that he officially has a job. It’s one of the most touching scenes you will ever see.

Good Will Hunting
“It’s not your fault”
Will is a janitor at MIT who is also a genius, but he has some psychological issues that need to be worked through. This is where Sean Maguire, played by the late, great Robin Williams, comes in. Sean is the only one who seems to be able to reach Will, and in this scene, Sean finally breaks through Will’s defenses.

The First Wives Club
You don’t own me
One of the most iconic musical scenes from a movie that wasn’t even a musical. These three divorcees initially get together to get revenge on their ex-husbands, but eventually take their revenge by making their former partners fund a non-profit organisation in aid of abused women. This scene happens after the ladies host a benefit and start to sing Lesley Gore’s You Don’t Own Me as they realise they don’t men in their lives to be valuable.

Singin’ in the Rain
Love is a wonderful feeling
If you’ve never seen this film, or at least watched the clip of this scene, do so NOW. It’s a wonderful testament to love and its effects. Don Lockwood is so overwhelmed with love after spending the evening with Kathy, that he starts dancing in the street, jumping into puddles and swinging off lamp posts because he’s so adorably and incredibly in love.

Finding Nemo
When Coral dies
Marlin and Coral are so terribly excited about their new home (a sea anemone) and their little ones that are about to be born. Marlin is chuffed because “a lot of other clown fish had their eyes on this place,” and Coral ensures him that she really does love their new neighbourhood and is excited about becoming a mom. I’s a very sweet moment. And then tragedy strikes…

Dead Poets Society
“O Captain! My Captain!”
Robin Williams plays John Keating, an influential, empowering new teacher at a private boarding school for boys. Keating gets fired after being blamed for a student’s death, and enters his classroom to collect his things while the principal is teaching his class. As he leaves, a few of the boys stand on their desks and salute him with the words “O Captain! My Captain!”

Love Actually
“To me, you are perfect”
There are so many scenes in this movie that could be put on this list, but this one stands out. Mark’s best friend, Peter, has just married Juliet, the woman he loves, but Mark seems to be rather unhappy about it. What we eventually learn is that Mark is actually in love with Juliet and always will be, but knows he can never have her.

Bambi
When Bambi’s mom dies…
During Bambi’s first winter, his mother is shot and killed by a hunter and he’s left all alone. But he doesn’t realise it and keeps running because she told him not to look back. When he gets to the thicket, he turns around and goes “We made it, Mother,” but she’s not there.

The Lion King
Mufasa…
I can’t even finish the sentence. Simba’s father is betrayed by his brother, Scar, and is killed. Simba believes it’s his fault and runs away, but not before begging his father’s lifeless body to get back up.
