There’s nothing better than having a really good friend – except having a bunch of them. Just ask Taylor Swfit. She has like 37 of them.
But while it’s really great to go for a night on the town, or party it up at someone’s place, sometimes you just need a little down time with your girls. And what could be better for that purpose than watching a couple of great movies with your crew?
So, break out the wine, eat too much, laugh your head off, and put one of these awesome flicks on. Whether you’ve seen them 10 times, haven’t seen them in years, or haven’t seen them at all, we guarantee fun will be had.
Waiting To Exhale
This movie, based on a novel by Terry McMillan, is about four women and their very different relationships with men, as well as each other. Friendship, love, sex – it’s got it all. It also features that badass scene where Angela Basset sets a car on fire.
Steel Magnolias
The movie starts with a bunch of women rallying around each other before Shelby’s wedding. As the movie progresses, they all face loss, luck, and love while growing closer in the process. It’s often sad, but in a good way, and there are often moments that will having you laughing like a mad woman.
Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion
Two besties/roommates, who are struggling career-wise, decide to go to their 10 year high school reunion together and face the girls who made their life hell. You should mainly watch it for that super fun dance scene, but the rest of the movie is pretty awesome too.
Clueless
As if(!) I’d ever leave this movie off this list. Cher is a popular, rich, but rather shallow girl living in Beverley Hills. After successfully matchmaking two of her teachers, Cher decides to give the new girl, Tai, a makeover and teach her how to be popular. But then realises her misguided ways once Tai becomes more popular than her. It’s a cult classic that’s totally rewatchable, and so quotable.
Mean Girls
I firmly believe this movie should be rewatched at least once a year. It’s smart, funny, and basically the Clueless of the ‘00s. Cady Heron was homeschooled by her parents for the first 15 years of her life in Africa. When she enters an actual high school for the first time, she feels out of place and awkward, until she becomes part of the Plastics – the most popular clique in school.
Spice World
Zig-ah-zig-ah! I watched this movie or the first time in about 12 years or so back in 2012, and I realised it’s NOT a cinematic masterpiece by ANY stretch of the imagination, but it’s so much fun to watch. The story line is weak, the cast (not just the Spice Girls) aren’t that great either, and the gimmicks are very gimmicky. But you’ll laugh, you’ll sing along, you’ll cringe at the fashion and feel ALL the nostalgia.
Bring It On
What’s more fun than watching two rival cheerleading teams battle it out for the ultimate glory? Watching it with your friends, of course! The Toro cheerleading squad’s newly elected captain, Torrance, finds out that all their routines were stolen from The Clovers by the Toro’s former captain. So there’s scandal, teen romance, dancing, cheering, and humour – what more could you ask for?
Pitch Perfect
Beca is a bit of a rebel who just wants to become a DJ, but her dad wants her to get an education first. He also wants her to find friends and join a group activity. She eventually relents and joins the failed all-girl acapella group. It’s a cute, laugh-out-loud funny movie and is full of witty commentary. Plus, if you’re a music buff, you’ll love the way they mash up music.
