If you’ve been following 7de Laan, you'll know that in the quest to save Vince from the clutches of Lucille (the wife of Bonita’s old nemesis, Bobby), Bonita had to make a choice to kill either Charmaine or Bonita's husband, Vince. I have no idea why Charmaine was the other choice, but my guess is because she forms the cornerstone of the Meintjies family.
So what happened next? Well, Bonita acquired poison from one of her shady friends. She had planned to poison a meal she prepared for Charmaine, but then she chickened out at the last minute.
Bonita then formulated a plan: She would pretend that she killed Charmaine – by killing her evil twin sister, Vivian, instead.
But here’s what bothers me the most:
Charmaine’s reaction and attitude to Bonita after Bonita went through many shady deals to save the Meintjies family.
With Lucille hot on her trail, Bonita managed to get into the institution where Vivian was kept and convinced her to escape from the hospital. After Vivian successfully did so, Bonita then convinced Vanessa to get Charmaine out of Hillside – allowing Charmaine to be out of the way while Bonita took care of Vivian.
But here is where this entire plot becomes confusing:
While all this was going on, Vince managed to escape captivity and, as Bonita was about to shoot Vivian, he appeared in Oppikoffie where Vivian was posing as Charmaine.
So, that didn’t going according to plan.
After Vince’s rescue, the family had a dinner. Bonita was still in possession of the poison that was meant for Charmaine, and at the dinner, Felicity unknowingly ingested some of it, thinking it was sugar. Luckily, she was rushed to hospital and survived.
Bonita was made to confess the truth in front of the entire Meintjies clan where Charmaine then found out that Bonita and the rest of the family were preparing to frame Vivian (the sister Charmaine hid away and ignored for years) for Vince’s kidnapping and that the poison was actually intended for Charmaine.
Now, Charmaine denies Bonita’s very existence. After trying to clean up the mess she created by trying to save Xander in jail, Vince from captivity and Charmaine from death, Bonita is now made to feel like the biggest traitor to the family.
Perhaps Bonita went about saving them in wrong way by using her past connections, but she played a dirty game and put herself in danger by doing what no one else in the family could do to save her loved ones.
And, of course, Vanessa has the most to say coming to her mother’s defense.
