8 SA fashion editors share the one item they can't live without

Asanda Sizani - fashion editor, Destiny

"I'm all for timeless pieces as my go-to items. My favourite item is most probably a painterly printed coat-dress I bought from COS in Berlin years ago. I love it because it's minimalist and elegant enough to be office and event appropriate, and I can "mess it up" by pairing it with sneakers (my favourite footwear) and distressed denim. That coat-dress was a smart investment. I'm a lover of print, and at the same time love streamlined, boxy silhouettes. My piece is all that in one. It's a treasure item I see myself passing down to my future daughter."

Kelly Fung - fashion director, Marie Claire

"My favourite item at this very moment are my Forrest Gump Nike Cortez sneakers, a rather unpredictable throwback. I just got them, so getting ready to wear these guys with everything and anything - thinking a pair of translucent ankle socks, a pleated skirt in an awkward length, that hits just above the ankle and a slouchy, oversized sweater. Easy."

Cara-Lee Ruditzky - fashion editor, Fair Lady

"My high-waist skinny jeans with a small rip at the knees is my fav. I am completely flat at the back, I have no booty, which makes it very hard for me to find jeans that fit snug. I tried a pair of high-waist ones a year ago and have never looked back. They fit snug on my butt, suck in the love handles and go with literally every top I own, as jeans do. They are definitely my most worn and loved item. I fear they are getting holy, and a new pair is calling. Note for future, when I find such a well-fitting pair of jeans, buy two pairs!"

Raya Rossi - creative director, A Fashion Friend and editor at The Visual Journal

"My current favourite item has to be hats, they’re the easiest accessory to throw on to update your look and the variety of shapes and styles available are endless! Local hat recommendations have to be Simon & Mary, berets by Crystal Birch and Kingdom in the Woodstock Exchange, because life is better with headwear."

Marishka Denicker, fashion editor, Grazia

"At the moment I am loving my gold pleated skirt, it makes me feel so fancy and I wear it anywhere. I have even worn it to work once. More is more and less is a bore as Iris Apfel would say! I am also obsessed with my H&M slippers, they go with everything and make me so happy."

Tarryn Oppel - fashion director, Elle

"Because I'm a lover of investment pieces that are classic, yet fashionable, it would have to be my Kenzo black leather jacket. I particularly love pairing it with contrasting feminine pieces and fabrics and strictly keep my biker from any crazy parties to avoid anything happening to it :) What I love about it, are the details: the silk printed lining, the blue branding at the back in a carpet-like fabric, the fact that when you zip it up the zips form a 'K'. It's perfectly boxy and my best purchase by far."

Gabrielle Kannemeyer - freelance fashion ed and stylist

"My favourite piece in my wardrobe is definitely my huge Rich Mnisi jacket ... It's too big for my frame, stiff/inhibits movement, it's white so dirt is drawn to it, it's loud, and rude... very impractical, I really really love it. I wear it whenever I'm at home feeling sad, or when I go to the store paired with a tracksuit or out to fancy places like events for drinks and small event foods."

Marisa Crous - fashion editor, W24

"At the moment I am so in love with my Nolita Allora scarf by Pichulik. I wore it so many different ways on a recent trip to Mozambique - neckscarf, headscarf and even as a tiny cape to hide my shoulders from the blistering sun. And the vibrant colours add something special to every outfit."
