MRP is known for its budget-friendly options that reflect global trends. Affordable casual wear, sexy heels, darling bomber jackets and cute printed tees are but a few of the fun items you'll find in this store. However, recently they released a product that had social media users raise their eyebrows.
A t-shirt from their men's collection displayed a message that perpetuates a negative attitude towards women.
The offending tee has a slogan that reads “Marriage workshop: He works, she shops” and it caused a ruckus on social media as people felt it promoted negative gender stereotyping.
The implication that men are the hard-working providers and women the shopping-obsessed spenders is outdated, insulting, and completely untrue. In South Africa, many women bring in the largest share of the household finances, while also doing the bulk of the child-rearing and house work.
MRP might have thought that the tee was playful but social media thought otherwise:
Hey @MRPfashion this shirt is deeply sexist and gross. pic.twitter.com/xlIieNFiQY

@BarbierAbra you would think buyers would wake up to the fact that it's 2017. I would not even look at a guy in that shirt. Sies.

When asked for a comment, MRP responded to W24 almost immediately, and we think perfectly:
"We completely agree with the concerns raised around this garment and we apologise sincerely. The product has been withdrawn with immediate effect." - Nicci Lyne Managing Director MRP
