Mzansi Moodboard is the uber cool brainchild of fashion blogger Palesa Kgasane, and showcases creativity from a variety of individuals and spaces “with a special emphasis on young women of colour”.
One of its latest showcases is a beautiful fashion editorial as part of the ongoing Word To The Women Of Colour series, a photographic collaboration with another great young creative, Neo Baepi. Writing on the site, Kgasane says of the latest instalment titled Spring in Mzansi: “Growing weary of seeing the same kind of people, I wanted to put together a group of women I find inspiring and style a photoshoot that will change the way we see fashion and also showcase the beauty that is Cape Town and the magical women of colour.”
The result is a beautiful set of images shot on what looks like a beach in Sea Point, with some of the exciting and interesting young women shaking up the scene – such as actress and author Buhle Ngaba – all dressed in yellow Merwe Mode garments. Kgasane, on the site, also says:
“This time we took on a fashion-film approach, as a challenge and also materialising something I’ve always wanted to do. Exploring the idea of nostalgia and the colour yellow in all its symbolic meaning of light, warmth and rebirth; myself and this dynamic group of women of colour turned this film into something more than just a fashion story.”
