Q & A with MICHAEL MAVEN
Tell us about Michael Maven?
Michael Maven is women’s contemporary ready-to-wear brand, designed and made in South Africa. We mix sophistication and trendy fashion elements with femininity. One of our strongest focus is on fabric and quality, and understanding that we target a discerning woman, who not only cares about aesthetics, but value as well.
What inspires your designs?
We get our inspiration from almost anywhere and everywhere. Travelling plays a large part of it. Seeing how women dress in other countries as inspiring.
Tell us about your partnership? When did you meet?
The company has 3 directors Nadia, Natasha and Mihkael Michael (siblings). Each of us play very particular and crucial role in the company. Nadia’s role as the Executive Director is to deal with the back-end and daily business functions, PR and collaborations. Natasha is the Head-of-Design and Creative Director. Her primary role is to forecast trends, conceptualise collections and determine how they will fit into the market. Mihkael primarily works on Strategy (Social Media and Marketing strategy).
Share with us 3 things that the public don’t know about you?
1. MICHAEL MAVEN is NOT a person nor a man, lol. Michael is our surname (Nadia, Natasha & Mihkael Michael), Maven is our aspiration; to be experts within the world of fashion.
2. We're never on the social scene, just a personal preference (we're extremely private).
3. None of us studied fashion (Nadia holds a BA, communications and marketing degree from Monash University, as well as a MBA from Gordon Institute of Business Science. Natasha has a BA, communications and marketing degree from Monash University; and Mihkael holds BSc from Monash University as well.)
What are you currently working on?
We currently diversifying our portfolio. We have opened an amazing apparel manufacture in Cape Town called The Edit Atelier, working with amazing brands such as Lalesso. We also have cool collaborations lined up for Michael Maven the near future.
