NOTE: Different schools have different dress codes stipulated by governing bodies, yet you can still adhere to these and be comfortable and fashionable.
Being a teacher, lecturer or coach doesn't have to mean boring, conservative dressing. Actually, please don't.
We are doing a few workwear guides these next few weeks to make sure you are looking and feeling your best at your place of work.
This one I'll call, Teaching the Teacher to become the Master Dresser.
Always mix smart and casual
Dressing for the classroom usually doesn't require the intense efforts of Cinderella's bird/fairy family of helpers, however, presentability is key in teaching and there are many ways to define this.
So keep it cool, no need to show up in a crisp white blouse, below the knee pencil skirt and court shoes with a boring neck-grazing bolla. Again, please don't.
Match things like:
A t-shirt and a figure-hugging pencil skirt
A t-shirt and a fitted pair of trousers with ankle boots
We love these boots from MRP, R180.
Or opt for a nice shirt dress and sneakers (flats are key for jobs where sitting for longer than 20 minutes at a time is but a pipedream).
Long jackets
A long jacket is some good armour - especially against the cold of a classroom. Again, pair a smarter jacket with a fitted pair of tracksuit pants (comfort is key!) or match a simple bomber jacket with a smarter bottom.

Suits
Suits are easy go-tos for teachers as it's a uniform. I would say don't shy away from colour as students won't necessarily find it distracting (as most would assume), but rather stimulating. Just think about it, won't paleontology seem more interesting if taught by a fierce babe in a mustard suit? Yes, yes it would.

And make the styling fun instead of going the traditional route, wear your suit with these sneakers:
