Trends come and go. That’s the saying. Unfortunately, it’s not always true. Some trends stick around for such a long time that they become classics. However, classics are usually beautiful, simple, and desired by the majority; think a tailored white shirt, a Burberry-esque trench or a really great pair of jeans.
Yet, I would not call the below list of fashion trends turned mainstream “classics” as I am – and I’m sure many of you are - simply fed up with them. Please try not to take offense in case you have more than one of these items in your current wardrobe.
My apologies. To your wardrobe, that is.
Uggs
They were basically designed to keep the feet of hot lifeguards warm. Why do you think the best Uggs come from Jeffrey’s Bay? So, unless you’re Pamela Anderson, in a red swimsuit, in Baywatch, in the nineties, then you really shouldn’t be wearing Uggs.
Military
According to the Guardian, in the ‘70s everyday people dressed military in solidarity with the anti-Vietnam protest. Yet, this was the ‘70s. War is not sexy now. It never has been or will be. It’s time to let the camo go.
Floppy hats
Elite Daily voiced what I have been thinking for far too long: wide-brimmed headwear doesn’t even look good on fashion bloggers. Sorry, but we are over this hat trend. It has gone too mainstream, and now, like a good hipster, we hate it.
Ripped jeans
I’m not talking jeans that are frayed at the bottom. Those are everything right now.
No, I am talking jeans that have been ripped so much that it’s hanging on for dear life. So much so that you almost see more skin than material. Stop it. For the love of Levi Strauss, stop it!
Tekkies
When I say tekkies, I mean this...
And not this...
Tekkies so normcore that I think they might have actually been Jerry Seinfeld’s first ever pair. Dirty and falling apart does not say cool.
